Shiver is a book about two people with separate lives until now... Grace, who is human, has many spent years watching the wolves in the woods. Sam lives two different lives as a wolf and as a human.
When Grace was little she was attacked by a pack of wolves. She thought she wasn’t going to survive, when one of the wolves with a yellow eye, fended the other wolves off to protect her. Ever since the attack, Grace has been obsessed with wolves and always keeping an eye out for her wolf.
Sam lives two lives. As a wolf he keeps the silent company of Grace, the girl he loves and saved. Once winter arrives, Sam hides in the woods to help protect his pack and in the warmer months is human. Sam is only human for a short time each year and has never dared to speak to Grace but must if he is to continue to remain human.
Grace one day finds a boy on her front porch and learns that this is Sam, the wolf that has been watching her from afar for all these years. Soon after meeting Sam, Grace finds out that Sam’s summers become shorter and shorter each year. Presently, Sam fears that one year he won’t become human ever again. So together Sam and Grace must fight to help Sam stay human whatever the costs, but at the same time Sam must help protect his pack.
The story is based in the town of Mercy falls; this is the town where Grace and Sam live. Shiver is the first book of the series called ‘The Wolves of Mercy Falls’. Shiver is told in first person but is told from both Sam and Grace’s point of view. This makes the book more interesting and you get to see the story from different people’s point of view. One of the most important moments in the book is the start of the relationship, the spark that starts the relationship. The story also includes a few flashbacks of when both characters were little and reveals a bit about their past.
One of the relationships is the relationship between Bec, one of the wolves of the pack and Sam. Sam is very close to Bec. He is like a father and a best friend to Sam. Sam also has a very close relationship with Grace.
Graces has a very different relationship with her parents. Grace basically takes care of herself but when she sits down with her parents, they all get along very easily. Grace also has a close relationship with her two best friends, Olivia and Rachael. Grace has a fight with one of her best friends, Olivia.
I really enjoyed reading Shiver because it included romance, mystery and is very imaginative. I have never read a book that is told in first person and from two different characters points of view. I thought this made the book more captivating and interesting. The book makes you think about have one day having a relationship with someone and more about the future. I have also found out there is a movie based on the book Shiver and suggest if you read the book that you also watch the movie. I recommend Shiver to people who love books with a little bit of romance and mystery.
